Detailed Job Description
Perform a wide-range of cost accounting activities utilizing the Avanti Print MIS system, including: analyze changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods and/or services provided, to determine effects on cost; analyze actual manufacturing costs and prepare periodic reports comparing standard to actual production costs; record cost information for use in controlling expenditures; work with management to determine the most appropriate methodology to allocate overhead costs to production units; prepare estimates of new and proposed product costs; and,prepare reports for management with factors effecting prices and profitability of products and services.
For month-end and year-end close, prepare journal entries to record in the general ledger cost of goods sold, chargebacks, revenue and expense accruals, deferred income, shared resource transfers, and cost allocations.
Analyze financial reporting for The Hub business units including:
Review monthly department statements for accuracy; reconcile to the department's records and resolve any identified issues.
Monitor general ledger accounts for accuracy and completeness and prepare monthly reconciliations including inventory, deferred income and capital projects. Prepare journal entry corrections if required.
Prepare budget-to-actual year-end projections at the end of each fiscal quarter.
Meet monthly with management to review results and obtain certifications.
Immediately following the month-end close, prepare the monthly dashboard reporting with key operating metrics including labor ratios, cost of goods, inventory turns, inventory to sales ratios, gross profit/loss and net profit/loss etc. Analyze results, summarize trends and provide information to management for use in making business decisions.
Manage the accounts receivable function including amounts due from RIT internal and external customers. Prepare monthly department chargeback journal entries and invoices for external customers. Respond to questions received from departments and other customers.
Assist with preparation the annual operating budget.
Required Minimum Qualifications
BS in Accounting required, MBA or CPA preferred. Five to six years experience required or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and be able to interact with both external customers and internal team members with professionalism.
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and time management skills required.
Ability to deliver results in a fast-paced environment; understand the various risks the organization faces and recommend practical and effective solutions.
Work independently with minimal supervision and exercise professional judgment in carrying out all assigned responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications Preference given to individuals who have worked in a production/manufacturing environment; experience with development and analysis of cost standards preferred. Strong PC and MS Excel skills and familiarity with Oracle or another enterprise-wide financial application required. Demonstrated experience developing processes, procedures and documentation preferred.
