Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Sr. Financial Analyst.
In this role, the Senior Financial Analyst will support various general ledger activities for the Medical Center, including the annual budgeting process, monthly reporting, and analysis and forecasting. The Senior Financial Analyst is expected to add value by creating executive quality management presentations, dashboards & metrics, identifying and driving business analysis, providing decision support analysis to be used by management to facilitate informed decisions, and to generate valuable insights and transparency around all areas of the business. The Senior Financial Analyst will also build and enhance processes and controls across finance and related accounting supporting systems. In addition, the Senior Financial Analyst will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial results and consistency with corporate and business unit accounting policies and procedures, and identifying and communicating risks and opportunities. This position will report into the Manager, with a dotted line reporting relationship into the Director, Finance
Monitor key interfaces from subsystems into the general ledger to ensure accuracy and completeness and obtain and review monthly reconciliations for each respective subsystem.
Serves as a liaison between General Accounting and Research Finance, FGP and other SOM Departments.
Coordinate inter-departmentally at monthly and year end close to ensure timely and accurate reporting of revenue and expense accruals.
Perform Balance Sheet account reconciliations monthly, quarterly and year-end.
Perform monthly analysis of the Research Mission or Clinical Mission to determine drivers of the SOM gain/loss for the period.
Assist the manager with the preparation and review of monthly and year-end financial statements, including footnotes disclosures of stand-alone financial package.
Coordinate with the Hospitals Center financial reporting team on the consolidated Langone Medical Center Financial Statement and package.
Interface with the budget departments regarding SOM questions/issues.
Assist with all system implementations impacting general ledger.
Investigate financial and operational issues and potential impacts that arise.
Assist the auditors with School of Medicine related requests.
Prepare and at times review journal entries for submission to the G/L.
Understands needs of customers assist customers with G/L queries and adjustments.
Perform on-going reporting and analytical projects on an ad-hoc basis as requested by senior management.
Ensures accuracy of general ledger, financial statements and ancillary reports.
Understands the effects of operational, financial and regulatory changes.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a - Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance. A minimum of three to five (3-5) years of accounting experience. Must have a sound understanding of accounting and/or finance and a general understanding of the healthcare and/or higher-ed industry in order to effectively carry out the responsibilities of the position. - Working knowledge of general ledger, journal entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and month end. - Excellent analytical skills combined with a strong attention to detail and the ability to present complex information in a usable format to a diverse audience. - Ability to interpret and apply finance and accounting policies, practices, and systems. - Ability to multi-task and work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. - Strong planning, organization, customer service, and written/verbal communication skills. - Proficiency in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams. - Strong work ethic, with ability to work extended hours as required. - Must become and remain proficient in all programs necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities for this role including an advanced understanding of Excel with functionality such as pivot table and v-lookup and Microsoft Word. -
Preferred Qualifications: - CPA licesnse or working towards a CPAand public accounting background is preferred. - Not-for-profit, healthcare or higher-ed industry experience is prefereed. - Knowledge of PeopleSoft and Oracle products such as Essbase, Hyperion and OBIEE are preferred.
