The Rockefeller University seeks a Digital Communications Specialist to join Communications and Public Affairs. The Digital Communications Specialist will serve as an experienced member of Communications and Public Affairs (CPA), working closely with senior members of the team to develop strategic communications and produce content for all of Rockefeller's digital platforms. In addition to assisting with strategic planning and web production, the position will also support the Associate Director of Digital Strategy as a link to the various technical teams engaged in maintaining Rockefeller's website. Responsibilities include collaborating with the editorial and digital teams to coordinate messaging between print and digital platforms in service of Rockefeller's overall communications strategy, helping to oversee maintenance of the Rockefeller website, proactively identifying areas for improvement and opportunities for new development, and working with the rest of the digital strategy team to ensure that featured content is refreshed on a regular schedule. The Digital Communications Specialist will contribute to generating new ideas for digital content and rich media for use on Rockefeller's website and the online version of Rockefeller's research magazine, serve as an active liaison with the Rockefeller IT group as well as external technical vendors, track web improvements, updates, and bug fixes, and help to set priorities and timelines in light of overall communications goals. Will also assist with development and execution of special web and digital projects (e.g. the Rockefeller annual report microsite) as needed, draft headlines, captions, and other web copy for new pages, email newsletters, and special projects, track traffic and metrics for the Rockefeller website, social media channels, and email marketing, prepare reports and offer analysis and conclusions to help drive content decisions, and assist with various web production tasks when needed.
Bachelor's degree in English, communications, biological sciences, or related field required. Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience working in an academic, scientific, research, non-profit, or other relevant digital communications environment. Must be comfortable moving between technical and communication worlds, helping to translate high-level messaging goals into concrete plans and tasks. Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills are a must, as is an interest in seeing web projects through from brainstorming to execution. Professional experience in tracking and analyzing web traffic and other related data, as well as a background in web development, technical project management, or other equivalent experience with technical operations is desired. Must possess an interest in producing copy for the Rockefeller site and other dynamic digital platforms. Proficiency with Wordpress and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, required.
