Advertised Summary Job Description: POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Executive Director, Tax, the Tax manager will play a significant and broad role in supporting the University tax office compliance and consulting work. The individual will be responsible for assisting with international payroll compliance and other international and domestic tax matters that arise in the context of higher education. The Tax Manager, in conjunction with the Executive Director, Tax will be responsible for understanding the needs of the University community and assisting in the development of policies and procedures that will benefit the various schools, departments and operations of the University. The individual will also assist in monitoring compliance with these policies to ensure the University maintains the highest standards in regard to tax compliance. The individual will also participate to the extent needed in the analysis and preparation of information in connection with the University's income tax returns.
Expected duties include but are not limited to:
?Monitor and reconcile domestic and foreign compensation and withholdings for University employees working overseas ?Performs detailed research on taxation in non-US countries ?Analyzes ad hoc issues related to taxation and related issues in a higher education setting ?Documents relevant University policies and procedures ?Monitors tax processes throughout the University ensuring compliance and/or internal controls are in place ?Reconciles applicable general ledger accounts ?Interacts and manages outside tax advisers in relation to assigned work ?Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned
General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or economics plus a minimum of five years professional experience required.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: Experience in either payroll or tax accounting, international payroll, or payroll tax compliance required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including active listening skills and a high level of attention to detail, plus the ability to work closely and effectively with a diverse group of University administrators required. Demonstrated ability to operate successfully in a complex organization, to work in a high pressure, fast-paced environment and ability to meet deadlines is required. Strong technical skills in financial analysis, reporting and accounting, along with demonstrated analytical skills to examine processing problems and develop reasonable and practical solutions, required. Must have a passion for excellent customer service and commitment to exceptional quality.
Preferred Qualifications: CPA, or progress toward certification preferred. Exposure to international tax matters is a plus.
